What Drives the Price of a Carpet Job
Stairs, first. A staircase can cost as much as a bedroom, because every tread and riser is cut, wrapped and fastened by hand. If your quote seems high, stairs are usually why.
Then fibre and style, the pad you choose, square footage, tear-out and disposal of the old carpet, and furniture moving. A cheap quote very often means a thin pad, and that is the one saving you will feel every day.

What is the best carpet fibre for a house with pets?
Solution-dyed nylon or triexta with a stain-resistant treatment. The colour in solution-dyed fibre goes all the way through rather than sitting on the surface, so it survives repeated cleaning and even mild bleaching. Pair it with a moisture-barrier pad, which stops accidents reaching the subfloor — that pad matters more than most people expect.
