Why Designers Specify Karndean
The short version: it is the luxury vinyl chosen for how it looks laid, not just for what it survives. Every rigid-core brand is waterproof now. Karndean's difference is the palette, the bevels, the plank and tile formats, and the laying patterns: herringbone, parquet, a border around a room. That is a design vocabulary the mainstream brands do not offer.
The other difference is glue-down. A Karndean LVT adhered to a properly prepared subfloor is the quietest, most solid-feeling vinyl floor there is, and it is the only way to lay a true herringbone. It asks more of the installer, which is why it matters that ours are our own crews.

What Drives the Price of a Karndean Floor
Glue-down versus click, first. Adhered LVT needs a flatter, better-prepared subfloor and more installation time than a floating floor, and it is priced accordingly. Then the pattern: herringbone uses more material and far more labour than straight plank.
Then the collection, square footage, tear-out and disposal, and transitions.

What is the difference between Karndean and COREtec?
Karndean's reputation is design: palettes, bevels and laying patterns such as herringbone and parquet that the mainstream brands do not offer, plus a glue-down LVT line that is the quietest and most stable luxury vinyl you can install. COREtec's reputation is the rigid-core plank itself, floated over an imperfect subfloor. Karndean's Korlok line competes directly with COREtec on that. We carry both and will put them side by side.
Is Karndean glue-down or click?
Both. Karndean's classic ranges are glue-down LVT: individual planks and tiles adhered to a prepared subfloor, which gives the quietest, most solid-feeling vinyl floor and allows patterns like herringbone. Korlok is Karndean's rigid-core click range for a floating install over an existing floor. The right one depends on your subfloor and the pattern you want.
Is Karndean waterproof?
Yes. Both the glue-down LVT and the Korlok rigid-core ranges are waterproof products; the planks and tiles do not absorb water. As with any floor, water can still reach the subfloor through edges and needs to be dried, and a basement slab needs a moisture check before anything goes down. We do that during the measure.
How much does Karndean cost installed?
Karndean sits at the premium end of luxury vinyl, and glue-down installation costs more in labour and subfloor preparation than a floating floor. The collection, square footage, pattern (herringbone uses more material and more time), tear-out and levelling all move the price. We measure in person and give you one firm written price. Can Karndean be laid in herringbone or parquet?
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons people choose it. Karndean makes plank formats intended for herringbone and other laying patterns, and the glue-down installation is what makes those patterns possible. We plan the layout on a measured drawing before the first piece goes down.
